Airline Quality

Before you book a flight, make sure you visit this site to see what other passengers think about an airline's service, reliability and, to a lesser extent, safety. You really do not want to get onto a dodgy plane where the goats give better service than the cabin crew. I must say that while I use this site, I do not always understand their criteria for not posting some reviews. If some or other airline serves sausages that taste like urine or a supposed five star airline messes up left, right and centre, then allow passengers to share that information with one another.

Another site I found just today is Air Review. I really like the detailed and honest reviews of different airlines. I felt as though I could have written some of those reviews myself they were so spot on.

Airliners.net

I love looking at this site. Ever since I was small I loved flying, and while most children were busy playing with cars or dolls I was playing with aeroplanes. Flying is not as exciting for me as it once was but I still get excited when I see one of those magnificent flying machines. It is also nice to see what the plane looks like that you will be flying in when you go on your trip. It adds to the thrill.

Babysit Overseas

If you are good with children or consider yourself Super Nanny, you might consider becoming an au pair for a while. The one advantage is that you get free room and board. If you're interested, you can visit GreatAupair.com or Aupair.com.

Be Guided by an Intellectual

If you want a guided tour that meets your intellectual needs, you might consider Context Travel. All their guides are academic scholars or experts in specific fields. At the moment, they have very few guides but perhaps that will change in future.

Bikes and Hikes

I like this site. it gives you information on biking and hiking trails so you can get exercise and enjoy the outdoors and fresh air. It gives the distance for each trail and the approximate level of difficulty, so you can choose what suits your needs and interests. I also like this site because some of the trails are inside cities, so if you don't feel like going into a forest, you can prowl the urban jungle. You can visit EveryTrail.com here.

Cheaper Car Rental

The idea behind this site is a great one from a consumer point of view. Not only do they let you book car rental but after you have booked, their system keeps checking if the price on the car you have booked has dropped. If it has, they cancel and rebook your car at the cheaper rate. Unfortunately, some car rental companies have decided to break the association with Autoslash.com. In one way this is understandable - Autoslash.com was cutting into their bottom line by constantly cancelling more expensive bookings and rebooking cheaper rates. Were these car rental companies right to break off the association? That is the million dollar question.

Check if You Need a Visa

Depending on which country you are from and where you are travelling to, you might need to obtain a visa before you allowed to enter a foreign country. You can check this information at Project Visa. Be aware that you should also contact the embassy of the country you are planning to visit to double check their visa regulations. Some countries seem to like changing their rules without telling anyone.

Choose Your Seat on a Plane

It is a good idea to choose your seat on a plane in advance if you can. While most seats will be the average seat, some will not be next to windows, some will not recline properly and others might be at awkward angles.

There are several websites I use when deciding which seat might be best for my needs:

Seat Guru

Seat Expert

Seat Maestro

Climb Kilamanjaro

Do you want to see the world like few people do? If you're interested in trekking through jungles, climbing mountains and crossing oceans in a kayak, you could help out charity at the same time and perhaps even get publicity or a book out of it. Here are a few sites to get you going on your quest for adventure, greatness, fame, fortune and charity:

Find the Right Cruise

I have never been particularly tempted to go on a cruise. I think after a little while at sea I would go out of my mind. For some reason, it appeals more to me to trek through the jungles of Borneo. Go figure, I would rather pull leeches off my legs than lie poolside a huge luxury liner. But that's just me at the moment. If you would like to find out whether you might enjoy a particular cruise, then you should consider visiting Cruise Critic. If I ever go on a cruise myself, I will also give them a bash.
