So, you are going to France. That means nights at the Moulin Rouge, right? Well, go if you must but when you are ready for something a little more local, try something more modern, more French and more popular with the French themselves.

From Paris to Château de Chambord, you will sometimes be able to catch music sensation Cassandre, whose singers Flo and Pierre, originally from St-Etienne, first appeared on France has Got Talent in 2011. Since then they have been singing their way around the country, making records and music videos.

The name of the group comes from Greek mythology and means someone who helps men. It comes from the tale of Cassandra, to whom the god Apollo give the gift of prophecy. When he tried to sleep with her, she rejected his advances. As punishment for this, he cursed her so that no one would believe her prophecies. It is quite a depressing name, to be honest, for a group, considering that the result of people rejecting Cassandra’s prophecies were death and destruction. However, there is nothing depressing about their talent.

Both Pierre and Flo are able to play piano and compose music. In fact, Flo is self-taught. He is also multilingual, having mastered English and German in addition to his native French, while Pierre also speaks English.

If, for some unfortunate reason, you are not able to see them perform live, you can always buy their music and enjoy it on your way to France and while you are travelling to France. Edith Piaf is great and there are so many great French singers; Pierre and Flo are two of these.

Below is one of their music videos for you to enjoy.
